Ponder Broken Hill Monster No 2?

Is there another monster out there? The first put NSW on the map and gave Australia BHP. The home of the mighty $70bn lead-zinc boomerang was last month bought by Consolidated Broken Hill, triggering the company’s run to an IPO.
So what’s left there? Quite a lot if you ask Bob Besley who is leading the remake of his gallant mineral venturer Redfire under the new Consolidated Broken Hill banner. There’s a range of lodes remaining in the 3.8km stretch of history CBH has just picked up. ‘Mining Lease No 7’ which spans the big boomerang structure was home to the 50Mt of super-grade mineralisation in Monster No 1. To get the show rolling there’s the 2.2Mt resource of >10% Pb/Zn within a full-length, untouched, 40m wide Western Zone. It will be speared from the base of MMM’s open pit. Then there are many ore lenses and remnants that failed to make the 15-20% cut-off grade in the old operations. Large blank patches of un-drilled rock lie between know bodies and outside. And potential for Monster No 2? “Bloody good” says Bob who is particularly keen on the major central shear structure and the positive grade effects it has on its halo. A structural repeat of the big one could also be there. You can imagine anxious support from governments (not to mention the Barrier Council)!
So where’s all this potential been hiding? It’s one of those curious sagas – a bit like Bendigo being lost in WMC for 20 years. In the case of the Hill, it went from Broken Hill South to MMM which sold to Poseidon which merged with Normandy which commendably spent a lot of money on rehabilitation.
Come along, welcome ‘the Hill’ back onto the NSW radar screen. Not to be missed!
