SMEDG - PREVIOUS MEETING

DATE: Monday November 1, 4.30 pm.

VENUE: Rugby Club, Crane Place, Sydney

SPEAKER: Dr. Bryce Wood, Associate Professor, School of Applied Geology, University of New South Wales.

TOPIC: "Geology and Exploration of the Mt. Victor Gold/Base Metal Deposits - Kainantu, PNG."

Exploration by Nuigini Mining over the last 1-5 years has indicated that a 21 sq. km. intrusive-extrusive complex in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea has potential for gold mineralisation. The intrusive-extrusive complex has been the source of the alluvial gold in the area and previously known stratabound gossanous bodies appear to have volcanogenic characteristics.
Exploration has shown potential exists for (i) low-medium tonnage oxidised gold-sulphide bodies; (ii) conformable base metal mineralisation and (iii) bulk low-grade gold stockwork feeder zones.
