“Use of HTS for Geophysical Applications -

A review”

ABSTRACT:

Of all the potential uses for High Temperature Superconducting devices, geophysical applications have not been widely used. Nevertheless pockets of work have occurred around the world which have led to a range of SQUID systems for geophysics. This review will look at the development of systems for various geophysical exploration tools for use in a range of applications including paleo-magnetics and rock magnetism, transient electro-magnetics - both airborne and ground based, and magnetic gradiometry.

This review will consider the CSIRO project in use of SQUIDs for geophysics. It will discuss the individual application areas and systems that have been developed, and report on some trials using these systems.

The June meeting is scheduled for the 20^th. John Lee has been invited to talk about the Hydrology of the Hawkesbury Sandstone.
