‘Life and times with Terry Leach’

Terry and Ray worked together closely from university days right to the very end.

Greg Corbett

Influence of magmatic arc geothermal on porphyry-epithermal Cu-Au-Ag exploration The big picture – setting the scene

John Baldwin

20

10.10

Kelian The carbonate zonation part of the geological models for carbonate-base metal Au and polymetallic Ag mineralisation first evolved at Kelian

Mike Erceg

20

10.30

Wafi, PNG The Terry Leach pH-Temperature relationship was initiated to resolve the observed alteration styles at Wafi, and subsequently used to identify the covered Raffertys porphyry copper.

Kaylene Camuti

20

11.20

Clay alteration zonation using Terry’s Temperature vs pH figure The pH vs temp figure for analysis of alteration zonation in porphyry and epithermal systems is probably Terry’s most recognised and innovative piece of work.

Doug Kirwin

20

11.40

Discovery History of Epithermal Gold Silver Deposits in South Korea - Boots, Hammer and Terry's Petrology Reports. Numerous reports by Terry and his group provided invaluable clay alteration and petrographic data which enabled Ivanhoe geologists exploring in South Korea to develop models which led to several significant discoveries, one of which is still in production.

Roy Kidd

20

12.00

Lihir Terry carried out important petrological work which accounts for the metallurgical characteristics of these difficult ores. Roy will give a post-mining update of the project to correct some major misconceptions from the misinterpretation of exploration data.

Keith Bettles

20

12.20

Carlin Trend Terry carried out detailed petrology on several Barrack properties in Nevada with profound exploration implications such as a much shallower level of formation and different mechanism of Au deposition contributing to the formation of elevated Au grades.

David Heberlein

20

12.40

El Indio, Chile Terry combined petrology with existing field work to delineate a textbook example of fluid flow from high sulphidation to bonanza Au grade lower sulphidation epithermal.

Leach and Corbett

2.20

Fluid mixing to account for bonanza Au in epithermal systems – This paper, not completed in Terry’s time, redresses the confusion derived from the excessive use of ‘boiling zone models’ to account for the development of bonanza Au in epithermal systems.

Dale Simms

20

2.40

The Gosowong epithermal Au mining camp, Indonesia – Dale will refer to Terry’s work at Gosowong in an update on the quite impressive, recently identified mineralisation.

Fleming & Cunliffe

20

3.00

A model for Andean polymetallic Ag-Au, the east Pacific equivalent to SW Pacific carbonate-base metal Au –Carbonate-base metal Au, the most important of the Corbett and Leach mineral exploration models, has been extended to a related deposit type in a new terrain, as the world’s historical most significant Ag producers.

Afternoon tea

30

3.30

Around the Display Booths

Trevor Neale

20

3.50

Terry’s contribution to Cu-Au exploration in Papua New Guinea or Au in PNG – Trevor has lived and worked in PNG for 30 years and been a client of Terry’s as well as local support. Trevor has reviewed over 20 petrological reports written by Terry to construct a presentation which will focus upon Terry’s contribution to PNG exploration.

Peter Grieve

20

4.10

Terry’s contribution to exploration in New Zealand or Au in NZ – Peter and Terry worked together many times and Peter will provide a similar review of Au in New Zealand with an emphasis upon Terry’s contribution.

Anthony Coote

20

4.30

What we have learned from Terry’s petrological procedures – Anthony worked with Terry for many years at CMS and will talk about the importance of petrology in mineral exploration, including new technologies (to be confirmed with Anthony).
