FIRST BIENNIAL CONFERENCE: SGGMP – PORT MACQUARIE, 2005

DETAILS
The conference will have no set theme, and any papers in the fields of
geochemistry, mineralogy and petrology are welcomed. Once abstracts are in,
specific sessions will be organised around their content. An official
Geological Society of Australia Abstracts Volume (papers will be refereed) will
be produced, along with a fieldguide on the region. The conference will
comprise two days of sessions on the Wednesday (13th July) and
Friday (15th July). Thursday (14th July) will consist of
a morning (till lunch) of fieldtrips along the Port Macquarie coastal strip and
includes outcrops of blueschists, eclogites and mafic intrusions and dykes. The
afternoon will be dedicated to student presentations.
Presentations will be of 15 minutes duration (with 5 minutes question
time) and extended abstracts of 4 pages (including figures and references) will
be accepted. If you are interested in attending and/or presenting a paper at
this conference, please fill-out the form on the following page, and send it by
email, normal mail, or FAX. Abstracts need to reach the organiser (see bottom
of Registration Form) by the end of May, 2005 at latest.
Port Macquarie is on the mid-North coast of NSW and is a popular
holiday resort due to the numerous nearby beaches. The town is of moderate size
and has a wide range of restaurants and cafes, to suit all tastes and budgets,
though it is especially well-known for its seafood. In winter, the climate is
mild and generally dry though please bring warm clothes and wet weather gear
just in case.
