Robust Resources - Romang Island
Abstract
“Mineralisation on Romang Island, Eastern Indonesia”
Romang Island is located in Eastern Indonesia, approximately 800km north-west of Darwin. Romang lies within the Sunda magmatic arc which hosts several world class gold and base metal deposits including Newmont's massive Batu Hijau orebody (920 million metric tonnes at 0.55 percent copper and 0.42 grams per tonne gold).
Robust Resources, through its Indonesian joint venture partners PT Gemala Borneo Utama (PT GBU), holds mining authorities covering 250 square kilometres, including all of Romang Island. Romang Island is strongly mineralised and prospective for several styles of mineralisation in two main areas to the north and south.
John Levings is a respected explorationist with over 30 years experience, including 20 in Indonesia. He worked initially in Tasmania, WA, Fiji and the NT, seeking tin, base metals and gold. At Tennant Creek (1986), as Chief Geologist for Australian Development, he was responsible for several gold discoveries including White Devil (high-grade, almost 1m ozs).
John’s gold focus continued in Indonesia. He was the first geologist to explore the Busang prospect in East Kalimantan, years before the Bre-X, becoming the “original sceptic” about their later announcements.
Over the years John has been associated with many Indonesian gold exploration and development programmes, two of which became mines- Rawas in Sumatra, and Buduk in West Kalimantan. He also worked for BHP Billiton on nickel laterites in Indonesia and the Philippines, and for others, on nickel, coal and gold in Australia, PNG and New Caledonia.
In 2006 John recognised the enormous gold/ base metal potential of Romang Island in East Indonesia. After pegging the entire island, evaluating data, establishing field operations (inc. local government/ community relations), a strategic alliance and farm in was undertaken by Robust Resources Ltd. This will provide the capital for serious exploration to be undertaken over the next 12 plus months.
