DATE: Thursday 10th December 1998 - 5.30pm for 6pm
VENUE: 1st Floor, Rugby Club, Rugby (Crane) Place, Sydney
SPEAKERS: Dr Gene Tobey
TOPIC: "Gold/Base Metal Ore Deposits of Kassandra District, Northern Greece"
In the last three years TVX Gold Inc. has defined world class deposits
of Cu-Pb-Zn-Ag-Au in an area originally mined during the time of Alexander
the Great. The Skouries deposit is a pipe-like alkalic porphyry Cu-Au deposit
with similarities to the Northparkes systems, and the Olympias deposit is the largest
of several polymetallic Pb-Zn-Ag-Mn-As-Au replacement deposits hosted by Palaeozoic marbles
in a gneiss dome setting. Skouries contains more than 500Mt at 0.47g/t Au and 0.37% Cu,
with grades of up to 1% Cu and 2g/t Au in the deeper zones.
Gene Tobey is Chief Geologist with TVX Gold Inc., based in Santiago, Chile.
