Mineral Exploration in Europe
Museums, moussaka and mines - can it be done?
For decades, political uncertainty, environmental constraints, social factors and distance have dissuaded Australian mining companies from exploring for mineral deposits throughout Europe. Instead, Australian mining companies have opted for closer exploration targets within Australia and Asia. The exploration and mining scene in Europe is changing rapidly and dramatically, with renewed interest from Australian, North American and European mining companies. The results of this exploration are nothing short of spectacular.
Despite the recent bad experiences involving Baia Mare and the Los Frailes cyanide spills, European Governments are welcoming the exploration Euro and the Mining Industry is being offered attractive incentives to find new deposits. Getting these deposits into production however is a challenge requiring diplomacy.
David Price was Project Manager for the Sappes Gold Project in Greece for several years and has spent considerable time monitoring the European mining scene. During his talk, David will demonstrate the potential for locating further precious metal deposits within Europe and will share some of his experiences of working in Europe as a geologist.
