Chatree Geology - from Exploration to Mining
The broad geological setting of the Chatree low-sulphidation epithermal gold
deposit in central Thailand was recognised early in the exploration phase
of its discovery. A reasonable understanding of the detailed geology emerged as the the final stage of the feasibility drilling, to more
closely define the location of dykes and structural offsets of the
mineralisation, was completed.
Since mining commenced fifteen months ago, detailed bench mapping, combined
with RC grade control drilling is being utilised to aid in differentiating
the various grades and waste for mining.
The Chatree Tawan deposit is relatively uniform but the increased detail
gained in moving from the exploration drill hole spacing of 25 by 50 metres
to the grade control drill hole spacing of 5 by 8 metres is greatly
enhancing an understanding of the structural and geological variations
within the mineralised envelope.
Mike Diemar will bring us up to date on these observations and the
techniques used within the Tawan Pit to control the mining. His close
involvement with the project throughout gives him a unique knowledge of the
journey the project has taken. As he is about to retire as Managing
Director of Kingsgate it is an ideal opportunity for SMEDG'ers, and others interested in mineral exploration and mining, to hear
firsthand the updated Chatree geological story.
