SMEDG
SYDNEY MINERAL EXPLORATION DISCUSSION GROUP
TECHNICAL MEETING: Wednesday, 29th March, 1989
SPEAKER: Dr John Bishop (Mitre Geophysics, Tasmania)
SUBJECT: "Geophysical Signatures of Tasmanian Ore Deposits"
VENUE: 1st Floor, Rugby Club, Crane Place, Circular Quay, Sydney
TIME: talk commences at 5.30pm
Tasmania contains a wide variety of mineral occurrences and world-class orebodies, ranging from Cambrian polymetallic VMS deposits to Devonian tin/tungsten skarns to Recent placer PGM deposits. Geophysics has been widely used in the search for these orebodies, and the talk will detail the geology of each deposit type and discuss its geophysical signature.
John Bishop started his professional career with the NSW Geological Survey in 1967, and following several years in industry, joined the Geophysics Department at Macquarie University. In 1980 he formed Mitre Geophysics, a geophysical consulting company based in Tasmania, but which has advised on geophysical applications around the Pacific Rim.
