TOPIC: "Major Non-Ferrous Metal Deposits in China"
China is one of the largest mineral producing countries in the world with several non-ferrous minerals and coal resources taking the lead in the world. The talk will give a brief presentation about several world class or representative copper, zinc-lead, and tin deposits in China covering their geology, exploration history and metallogenic models.
The presentation will include:
*The largest Dexin porphyry copper in China (1 billion tons 0.5% Cu 0.12g/t Au);
*The so-called “3 in 1” copper model (contact skarn, stratiform and porphyry) in the
Yangtze Valley copper belt (1Bt, 1% Cu);
*Ashele VMS copper deposit in acid volcanics (37Mt, 2.4% Cu 1.2% Zn 0.48g/t Au);
*Lanping zinc-lead deposit in Eogene clastic sediments (149Mt, 7.9% Zn, 1.6% Pb);
*Qixiashan zinc-lead-silver deposit (22Mt, 5.6% Zn, 3.2% Pb, 68g/t Ag) about its
metallogenic model related to unconformable contact and palaeo karst;
*Dachang tin-zinc-antimony deposit (80Mt, 1% Sn, 3.5% Zn, 3% Sb) about its
interesting “Three Storeys” exploration model.

Zhenmin (James) Xiao has been engaged in mineral exploration and mining business in China for 20 years and in Australia for eight years. He was exploration manager and chief geologist for the East China Non-ferrous Exploration Bureau of CNNC, (China Non-ferrous Metals Industry Corporation) for eight years. His exploration activities have been involved in several significant discoveries of base metal and gold deposits and increase of resources in eastern China. He has written two books on minerals published by Geology Press in China. He currently is engaged in mineral business with Ausmindex NL and is a Fellow of the AusIMM.
