DATE: Thursday 25th May 2000 - 5.30pm for 6pm
VENUE: 1st Floor, Rugby Club, Rugby (Crane) Place, Sydney
SPEAKER: Lindsay Newnham
TOPIC: "Avebury Nickel Deposit - Tasmania"
At Avebury on Tasmania's West Coast,
Allegiance Mining*
has discovered what it believes to be a new type of nickel deposit
where the sole sulphide mineral present is coarse grained pentlandite.
The potential exists for several million tonnes of 1 1/2 percent
nickel over the 300 metres so far intensively drilled. Geological,
geophysical and geochemical mapping infers considerable extensions
to be present.
Prior to becoming a consultant in 1990, Lindsay Newnham was
Exploration Manager for RGC. Over the past 35 years, Lindsay has
played a major role in discoveries such as Henty Gold (Tas.),
Lucky Draw (NSW) as well as in the extension of life for Mt. Lyell.
Recently Lindsay was Project Manager at Beaconsfield, and at the
development and construction of the Anchor (Sn) Mine, Tasmania.
