SMEDG - Notice of Meeting

DATE: Thursday 9th May, 2002. 5.30pm for 6pm

VENUE: Rugby Club, Rugby Place, Circular Quay

SPEAKER: Dr Issai S Goldberg

TOPIC: "New Conceptual Model for the Recognition of Geochemical Patterns"

Summary
This talk will discuss a new model which better describes the variation in ore forming elements in proximity to and distant from ore bodies and mineral deposits. Our research indicates that the primary halo, the positive anomaly, is only a part of a more extensive geochemical system. The system includes, besides halos of enrichment, halos of depletion of ore forming and other elements. The positive anomaly is the nucleus (core) of the system within a broader negative (depletion) anomaly.
The evaluation of a prospective area and identification of drilling target are based upon two principal criteria: a linear dependency between the size of the negative halo and the ore mineral accumulation and the zoning of the ferrous group of elements in the nucleus of the system.
The talk will outline the advances made in the identification of geochemical anomalies associated with ore forming and other elements as geochemical systems of ore deposits (ore bodies) with references to case studies.

Dr Issai S Goldberg (background)

Fellow Association of Exploration Geochemists, Member Australian Institute of Geoscientists
Degree in Mineralogy, Leningrad State University (Russia), 1953
PhD Geological Research Institute, Leningrad, 1964.
Senior Geologist, Tadjik Geological Department, Dushanbe, 1953-1961.
Head of Geoelectrochemical Laboratory (1980-1991) at Research Institute NPO Rudgeofizika, Leningrad (Russia).
Chief Geochemist and Geoelectrochemist of IONEX Pty Ltd (1994 till now)

Dr I. Goldberg developed CHIM and others new geoelectrochemical method used to discover "blind" ore deposits.

Dr I. Goldberg , Dr G. Abramson and Prof V. Los developed the new IONEX Technology for exploration on any scale of ore deposits (regional to local) in open and covered terrain.
