TOPIC: "The Syerston Nickel Project"

The Syerston Project is scheduled to start construction next year and will be one of the biggest base metals developments in NSW since Broken Hill. Based on Alaskan style intrusions at Fifield, it will be the only nickel cobalt laterite to also produce platinum. The Project will cost in the order of $650 million and have production capacity of 20,000 tpa nickel 5,000 tpa cobalt and 10,000 oz pa platinum.

Jim Askew is Chief Executive of Black Range Minerals Limited, based in Sydney.
Jim is a mining engineer with broad international experience as CEO for a number of mining, investment, contracting, software and service companies in the international arena. These roles have included the restructure of Golden Star Resources and Rayrock Resources in North America, reconstitution of Golden Shamrock Mines from a listed shell through to its merger with Ashanti Goldfields, co-founding Ausdrill and the earlier establishment of James Askew & Associates, now known as Australian Mining Consultants. His commodity exposure has been primarily base, precious metal and uranium developments and operations, in all major continents of the world. As a Board member, past or present, of over 20 publicly held resource companies internationally, he has broad experience of the public company issues attendant to international exploration and mining companies. Present outside interests include farming, property development, vintage car racing, golf and fishing.
