“Pacific Rim Epithermal Gold Mineralisation”

Dr Greg Corbett

Greg Corbett has a BA Hons in geology from Macquarie University 1974 and PhD from UNSW Broken Hill College 1979 for a study of Structure, Stratigraphy and Metamorphism of Precambrian rocks adjacent to the Yanco Glen Hotel, Broken Hill. Greg joined Placer Exploration and spent 3.5 years(1980-83) mainly mapping at Porgera and Kidston. Having developed an interest in Pacific Rim island arc geology Greg began contracting mainly in PNG in 1984. From 1985 he was involved in the float of Austpac Gold to explore for Pacific rim epithermal gold and remained as chief geologist for 4 years conceiving and initiating an epithermal gold search in Japan. From 1989 to the present Greg has worked as a Consultant Economic Geologist working mainly the structural controls and styles of epithermal gold-silver and porphyry copper-gold deposits for a variety of clients from major to junior explorers, Governments and investors in over 30 countries. A focus for this work has been to study a wide selection of projects in order to make the field comparisons necessary to develop as understanding of the different styles of epithermal gold deposits. The classification developed in conjunction with Terry Leach was presented in a short course over 30 times in 12 countries and the notes published by Economic Geology as Special Publication 6. Greg still provides a strong component of training in his consulting (including short courses to the exploration and mining industry) and has published many scientific papers and conference presentations. He was chairperson of SMEDG for 5 years and is currently President of the AIG.
