Presents an IPO success story
MPI Mines – Managing Director Brian Phillips
Opening the 2003 season of the Sydney Mining Club is the story of a good positive mining IPO. The analysts gave it ten points for commodity spread, timing, profit forecasts and management pedigree. MPIs $7m offering was heavily oversubscribed and opened trading at a 20% premium. On offer were 80% of WA high-grade Black Swan nickel project, 25% of the Coolgardie Gold Mining JV and 50% of Victoria’s Stawell gold mine, the original WMC hand-me-down that launched MPI as a private gold producer in 1992. MPI is now poised to commit to extend the Silver Swan mine which is producing 10,000t of nickel a year, and opening Stawell’s deeper Golden Gift deposits named of course after the town’s famous running race the Stawell Gift. Up its sleeve is the Honeymoon nickel project, near WMC’s flagship Mount Keith operation, where 118Mt of 0.8% sulphide nickel awaits.
Ironically the master of this hot new float, Brian Phillips, once swore that he would never work in a public company again. He joined the like-minded former Australian Consolidated Minerals M.D. Ken Fletcher, and formed MPI shortly after ACM’s takeover by Normandy and WMC. When Brian Phillips flies up from the Deep South to showcase the company for us, he will bring with him the results of his maiden quarter as a listed company and a rich experience in successful project and corporate development. Not to be missed!

The Forum is held at the Tattersalls Club at 181 Elizabeth St, Sydney (adjoining the Sheraton on the Park). There has been a relaxation of dress rules at the Tattersalls Club and ties and jackets are no longer required but men must wear long trousers and a smart collared shirt.
Thank you for supporting your Sydney Mining Club and for your interest in the current affairs and issues that drive our industry.
Dear Sydney Mining Clubbers,
The excellent lunch at Tattersalls in 2003 is $40.00 per person with complimentary drinks on arrival. Wine for the table can be ordered and settled directly with Tattersalls staff. All students remain at $10 so you should remind your student friends of this (Student ID to be presented at door). I can assure you we are working hard to minimise the cost of your forum lunches.
At some time in the future we may move to a formal membership arrangement for the Sydney Mining Club so if you have any friends and colleagues to add to our ‘virtual membership list’ – that is our e-mail list – now is the time to ask them to send their name and e-mail address to Sharon.
Students $10, Concession Rate $30, Everyone else $40. Corporate Table bookings (10 people) $400.00 (incl GST) per table
Please note any bookings received after close of business on the Tuesday prior to the lunch will automatically be charged a late fee of $10 per person. .
