The Geological Survey of NSW is currently undertaking a range of studies across NSW to improve our understanding of mineral systems and their host environments. These include a statewide assessment of the potential in NSW for strategic elements and mineral deposit dating using Ar, U-Pb and Re-Os. A major focus is the Nymagee 250k sheet and surrounds. Here, mineral system dating and new Pb and S isotope data will improve our understanding of the sources of fluids and metals and what drove the hydrothermal systems. Collection of hyperspectral data of representative mineral systems using the Hylogger core scanner continues and a digital atlas of representative mineralisation styles and their host rocks for the Nymagee region is also being prepared. Further afield, mapping is being undertaken in the Captains Flat and Mt Oxley-Coolabah areas and a major new airborne geophysical acquisition program has been completed in the Tenterfield – Grafton region.
