TOPIC: “Benambra Base Metal Project” The Benambra Project is a joint venture between Denehurst Limited and Macquarie Resources Pty Limited. The high grade Wilga copper deposit commenced production in October 1992 and has been developed at a mining and milling rate of 200,000 t per year at a grade of 9% copper. 70,000 t of concentrate grading 26.5% copper should be produced each year. The talk will look at the history of exploration in the area leading up to the discovery of the Wilga and Currawong deposits, the long process of feasibility review and the negotiation of legislative obstacles and the experience of developing Victoria’s first significant base metal mine in an alpine environment.
