SMEDG SYDNEY MINERAL EXPLORATION DISCUSSION GROUP

– JOINT TECHNICAL MEETING WITH ASEG

SPEAKER: STEVE WEBSTER (Austirex International Ltd); co-authors Dick Henley and Lyal Harris

SUBJECT: “High Resolution Airborne Geophysics for Epithermal Gold – Fast, Frugal and Effective”

VENUE: 1st Floor, Rugby Club, Crane Place, Circular Quay, Sydney

DATE: Tuesday, 1st August 1989. Drinks from 5.30pm, talk commences at 6.00pm.

High resolution airborne magnetics and radiometrics have proven to be cost-effective for gold exploration in northeast Queensland and Coromandel, New Zealand. Clear definition of structure and the ability of image processing to extract characteristic rock-type grain from the data sets give enormous assistance to geologic mapping, especially in areas of poor outcrop. Examples are given to show how the development of a geophysical signature for gold ore environments enables the explorer to focus the exploration dollar to areas of high priority.
