TOPIC: “Instant Geochemistry Results – Myth or Reality?” Independent Evaluation of the NITON XRF
Field portable XRF techniques have promised a great deal but delivered little over past years. However, recent evaluation trials of a new hand held XRF developed by the NITON Corporation suggest that accurate real time geochemistry is now possible. This paper will discuss the findings of trials conducted by mining and exploration companies for mineral sands, base metals and other minerals plus outline the limitations and potential applications for field portable XRF technology in the mining industry.
Jason Bawden-Smith is Managing Director of JBS Environmental Services & Technologies Pty Ltd. Jason holds Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Environmental Science and is a recognised authority on the use of field portable XRF technology in the investigation and remediation of contaminated land.
