DATE: TUESDAY, 18th DECEMBER, 2007
VENUE: Rugby Club, Rugby Place, Sydney at 5.30pm
SPEAKER: JACOB REBEK
TOPIC: “CENTURY ZINC DEPOSIT UPDATE”
“Century is one of the largest and most profitable mines in Australia. The geology of the Century deposit will be discussed, focusing on characterisitics which can be used in exploration for area and target selection. Potential for use of concept of “source bed, migration and entrapment” will be discussed, based on the fact that at Century the thin layers of ore are a mixture of sphalerite and bitumen. The question of ‘syngenetic’ versus ‘epigenetic’ will be addressed and the proposed conclusion will be that the deposit is of ‘diagenetic’ origin.”
