WIMNet, a subgroup of the AusIMM, invites not only women in traditional mining professions such as engineers, geologists, and metallurgists but also women who work in the mining industry in other areas such as finance, law and consultancy. Whether you are working, studying, and / or juggling family and career, WIMNet would love to see you there!
To focus the evening, we will have a panel discussion titled Diversity in Mining Consulting led by two WIMNet members who will describe how they arrived at two very different types of mining consulting.
Sue Border is Principal & Managing Director of Geos Mining, a thriving geological consultancy based on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. With qualifications in Mining Geology and Industrial Mineral Science, she has over twenty years’ experience in the mining industry in Zambia and Australia. Her background includes mine geology, consulting with Robertson Research Australia and University lecturing. Sue’s university research was in optimisation of reserves through geostatistics, optimisation of cut-off grades, and statistical process control of mill feed selection. Sue is also a past Chair of WIMNet.
Cay Mims is with Proudfoot Consulting, a global management consultancy that assists clients implement operational improvements. Cay has over fifteen years experience in exploration, mining operations, and project finance principally in Australia, the USA, and Africa. She is also a committee member of the Sydney Mineral Exploration Discussion Group SMEDG, has a BSc in Geology and an MBA.
